Being a River

Over five Thursday afternoons, we’ll consider how the river can mirror us through its flow, turbulence, stillness and depth. We will explore mindful ways of experiencing the water through our bodies and senses, creating simple creative records each week. We’ll be based outdoors by the river, with Drumelzier Village Hall available if the weather is wet. Each session involves a gentle 10-minute walk down to the river over slightly sloping grassy fields and a small wooden bridge.

These sessions are a relaxed, welcoming invitation to spend time outdoors, try simple creative activities, and connect with others and the riverside environment. The opportunity to try wild swimming is part of the project, but not compulsory – you can choose to get wet or stay dry! No previous art or wild swim experience is needed. The sessions are free of charge and all materials and equipment are provided.

As the workshops progress, participants will bring their experiences of the river environment and water together to make creative ‘expressions’ or ‘marks’ on small and large scales using things found by the river, fabric, colour, and imagination.
